How are you feeling today? Do you feel beautiful? Meet a savvy marketing agency, BOOMbox Network in Chicago, that focuses on baby boomers–that’s us. Great choice! The team posted survey results at year’s end that asked gals ages 45+, within its network of bloggers and influencers, specific questions about beauty at our age.
The research was fairly specific and I wanted to share some results with you. I’m curious how you feel about the answers—do you feel they reflect your own opinions?
Beauty problems that bother us most
The research determined that beauty and confidence go hand-in-hand. It found that the “feel most beautiful age” is between a woman’s 30s and 50s. And according to the survey, we boomer gals worry about the following:
- 68 percent (of us): hair color
- 64 percent: hair texture
- 58 percent: uneven skin tone
- 60 percent: aging spots
- 74 percent: yellowing teeth
- 56 percent: facial hair
- 49 percent: lip lines
- 53 percent: dark circles
- 56 percent: forehead wrinkles
Many boomer women, survey said, want to improve their looks but simply don’t know how. “They are not helpless or passive, but simply want better information.”
I think that’s true, which is why Mind Your Body TV has produced four videos on the subject of makeup, like this one with Hollywood pro Dia Dibble. Look for another one with her soon, plus don’t forget our shoot with makeup guru Bobbi Brown’s team: two videos there, too.
Boomers want results
The study found that the longer it takes for a product to prove its claims, the less likely its claims are to be believed. Credibility and relatability of advertisements for beauty and grooming products are at very low levels: Do you trust the ads you see?
Data showed that we obtain our most useful information from the following sources:
- friends and family: 24 percent
- magazines: 27 percent
- consumer reviews: 12 percent
- lifestyle and beauty blogs: 12 percent
- beauty technician/stylist: 11 percent
- samples: 8 percent…
- and so on down the line
