Get ready to be enthralled with NBC’s new action thriller, Blindspot, premiering Monday, September 21 at 10/9 Central. At the network’s recent Fall Press Tour, I had the chance to ask Marianne Jean-Baptiste, who plays Bethany Mayfair, for the inside scoop on this mesmerizing show that critics are already calling “a winner.” The new offering premieres right after the mega-hit, The Voice. Ready, set, go!
Tattoo who?
Marianne joins a cast that includes Aussie Sullivan Stapleton of 300: Rise of an Empire and Strike Back; Jaimie Alexander of Thor:The Dark Worldand Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., along with Ashley Johnson of Much Ado About Nothing. The show grabs you by the throat as it begins with Jaimie as Jane Doe, who’s lost her memory. She exits a duffle bag in the middle of Times Square—the bag’s label says, “call the FBI.”
You get what’s coming next.
This exquisite woman wears nothing but tattoos, ultimately a road map to a larger conspiracy of crime. The decorations also lead her to discovering her own identity—and they contain the name of FBI Agent Kurt Weller. The plot lines weave in and out and never cease to keep us guessing, as each line on the body represents a crime that must be solved.
Multitalented Marianne
It was so good to meet the highly accomplished actor, Marianne, now 48, who is a graduate of Britain’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and who has Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations for her work inSecrets and Lies. She’s also a writer and composer, with a focus on jazz, and she was recently seen on Britain’s ITV in Broadchurch. She also co-starred for seven years on Without a Trace—that brought her both a SAG nomination and two NAACP nominations.
Marianne lets us in on show secrets, along with Ashley, who plays Agent Patterson. Here they also share how they stay healthy and happy while enduring the rigors of their shooting schedules.
At the press event, executive producer Greg Berlanti said “there are big questions asked, but there is also a satisfying journey.”
Let’s go along for the ride. Start now with this trailer.
