If you’re a fan of NBC’s The Blacklist, you know that the show moves at the speed of sound, grabbing your attention in a chokehold until you gasp and realize “something else” is happening and you’d better start breathing so you don’t miss it. Mark your calendar for Sept. 24 on NBC for The Player, from John Fox and John Davis, the executive producers of The Blacklist. Expect the same kind of heart-pounding action and surprises.
As a series regular, Wesley Snipes plays pit boss Mr. Johnson in the new action thriller set in Las Vegas. The premise bets to be intriguing: wealthy folk play a high-stakes game, gambling on the ability of Philip Winchester’s character Alex Kane to stop inconceivable crimes from occurring. With a central thesis of “power,” you can expect the show to include stunts that will knock your socks off—and maybe more. You’ll love seeing Wesley Snipes in The Player.
After all, Snipes, age 53, was—and still is, in our minds—human/vampire comic-book hero Blade, and he put his extensive martial arts skills to good work in the Blade trilogy. He looks fabulously fit and healthy now. No doubt we’ll see him flex those muscles and kick things up a notch in The Player.
Here’s the show’s trailer to whet your appetite. Don’t miss what witty Wesley tells us here about his new fall television outing, about whether he’s “good” or “bad,” and about those spankings. Then tune in to see for yourself.
This was my first special report from the NBC Fall Press Tour.
